a lesson of a rose
Mike Vick is not done in the NFL. Not right now, today. He has a chance. He can do his time, serve his penance (PSA's, counseling, Bad media) inside and even when he gets back out.
But the truth remains, he did terrible, disgusting, cruel things. To dogs.
He deserves the time, he will most likely do some hard time. But to say he should be banned for life, that does not fit with the current profile of what the league has done. He will have the opportunity to return to play in the NFL, and he should have that chance. But there is no gaurantee. He has a mountain to climb before society accepts him again. Many never will accept him again.
But there remains a glimmer of possibility, of hope, that maybe he can climb that mountain. That maybe he can move forward and come out the otherside as a once damaged, but better human being. There seems no doubt he has carried himself as the lowest form for some time now. Seems to be no way to go but up.
Oh, but there is another way. He could always find a way to go down. He could stand against the accusations. He can profess his innocence to all who listen. He can bang on the doors and demand to be re-instated, that He deserves it He didn't do anything. He can fight against the truth on TV, in the papers, or on the streets near the Hall of Fame. Is Mike Vick quilty of something far more heinous than anything Pete Rose was ever accused of? No doubt. But there is a lesson there.
Mick Vick has a chance. Just one, and its not an easy road. But.....
